Family Friendly Trails
Keswick to Threlkeld Railway Path
This family-friendly trail follows the old railway line from Keswick to Threlkeld and is a 16km round trip. It’s a relatively flat route, making it perfect for a leisurely ride while enjoying the surrounding landscapes. This cycle trail begins in the car park of the swimming pool at Keswick and continues along the trackbed of the old Cockermouth, Keswick and Penrith railway.

Whinlatter Forest Park
Whinlatter Forest Park boasts some of the best mountain biking trails in the Lake District with various trails from 4 to 19 km. It offers a mix of forest trails, scenic views and challenging climbs. Popular routes include the Quercus Trail for beginners and the Altura Trail for more experienced riders. Bike Hire is available at the forest, we advise that you book in advance.

Grizedale Forest
Grizedale Forest is home to a range of trails suitable for all skill levels with various trails from 4 to 24 km. The North Face Trail is a favorite among experienced riders, featuring technical sections and breathtaking views. For a more relaxed ride, try the Hawkshead Moor Trail. Bike Hire is available at the forest, we advise that you book in advance.

Mountain Biking Trails
The Skiddaw Loop
One of the Lakeland classics. Starting at Keswick Tourist Information Centre, 28km in distance and it is recommended to use a mountain bike. The ride circles the Skiddaw massif, formed by the eruptions of ancient volcanoes which dominate the surrounding area. The entire route presents few real challenges but does explore some of the wilder corners of the Northern Fells offering a wonderful wilderness flavour.

Tour of Borrowdale and Derwentwater
If you're looking for an invigorating 16km mountain bike ride around classic Lakeland scenery, the Borrowdale Bash delivers on this and more. Starting in Keswick, the route forms a loop around Derwentwater, best biked in a clockwise direction and takes in Watendlath, Rosthwaite and Seatoller to the south. The route delivers steep climbs and technical descents. This one isn't for the faint-hearted!

Loughrigg Terrace
Loughrigg fell sits towards the southern end of Grasmere. The terrace, at the base of the fell, takes in lovely views of the lake and is covered in bluebells in the spring. You could do something as simple as a linear route along the terrace up to 10km or expand it to take in Ambleside, Elterwater and the Langdale Valley and take in up to 22km. Whichever you choose, make some time to appreciate the views, which are spectacular in this area known as ‘Wordsworth Country’.

Helvellyn
If you’re after a real challenge, with amazing views and adrenaline-pumping descents, then Helvellyn could be for you. 19km in distance and only suitable for very experienced riders, this trail takes you up the Lake District’s third-highest mountain at over 3,000ft! As you might imagine, the ascent is pretty hard going up Sticks Pass, but it’s worth it for the incredible views and an amazing ride back down via Dollywagon Pike and Grisedale
